Rebranding Purdy/Kresge Library
THE PROBLEM
Purdy Kresge Library at Wayne State University was often overlooked by students, primarily seen as just a quiet study space. Its website lacked visual appeal, and existing marketing efforts didn’t effectively communicate the library’s full range of offerings.
THE SOLUTION
After visiting the library and analyzing its website, I identified opportunities to reposition it as a creative and relaxing retreat. With permission, I photographed the space and developed a refreshed brand identity using Wayne State’s official colors (green and gold), logo, typeface, and mascot. I designed a new website that highlighted activities like arts and crafts, games, and other recreational opportunities. I also created supporting materials including a bookmark, a brochure for the information desk, and a large outdoor banner to increase visibility.
THE OUTCOME
The new branding successfully shifted student perceptions, encouraging more visits and engagement with the space. This project sharpened my skills in visual storytelling, research, and applying brand systems to real-world challenges.
